When the lid is placed on the container, the surface area 1,176 square inches.

What is the volume of the storage container?

Solution:

The diagram shown below is a cube.

The surface area of a cube = 6s^2 = 1176

Divide both sides by 6

S^2 = 196

square root both sides , we have:

s = 14 inches^2

Volume of a cube = s^3 = 14 x 14 x 14 = 2744 inches^3
