Homologous structures have the same physical features that share a common ancestor. Their features act on different functions. Analogous structures is present on features of different species with similar functions but not in structure. They did not came from a common ancestor.

1. the mammalian tail and

the human coccyx (tail bone) - homologous structures. They came from a common ancestors.

2. the leaves of pitcher plants

and cacti - homologous structures. They have different shapes and functions but came from the same ancestors.

3. the flippers of penguins

and dolphins - analogous structures. They are not closely related. They have the same traits.

4. the bills of ducks

and platypuses - homologous structures. They developed their bill from a common ancestor.

5. the shells of turtles

and crabs - analogous structures. They are not closely related. They have different structures.
