To find the magnitude of a vector, there is a simple formula:

\begin{gathered} |v|=\sqrt[]{x^2+y^2} \\ |v|=\sqrt[]{(-4)^2+(2)^2} \\ |v|=\sqrt[]{16+4}=\sqrt[]{20}=2\sqrt[]{5} \\ \end{gathered}
