Area of the deck = Area of rectangle A + Area of rectangle B

= (12 × 20) + (34 × 8)

= 240 + 272

= 512 square feet

Part B

∵ 200 square feet of the deck is covered by 1 can of stain

∴ 1 square feet of deck will be covered by the can of stain =
(1)/(200)

∴ 512 square feet will be covered by the stain =
(512)/(200)

= 2.56

≈ 3

Therefore, 3 cans of stains will cover the entire deck.
