Since a U.S quarter is a circular coin write the expression for the area of a circle


\text{The area of a circle = }\pi r^2

Where


\begin{gathered} \pi=3.14 \\ Radius=\frac{\text{diameter}}{2}=(24)/(2)=12\operatorname{mm} \end{gathered}

Step 2

Find the area of 1 side of a quarter to the nearest square mm


\begin{gathered} A=\text{ 3.14}*12^2 \\ A=452.16\operatorname{mm} \end{gathered}

Hence, to the nearest square millimeter the area of one side of the quarter = 452 square millimeter
