1. The domain of the function is the values of x valid to substitute with it

For the given function

It starts at x = -4 till x = 1 (open circle)

then starts a gain from x = 1 (closed circle) till x = 3

so, the domain of the function is [-4 , 3]

2. For the function above, what is f(-1)?

To find f(-1), take care, there are two intervals

F(x) = 2 from x = -4 till x = 1 (open circle)

and F(x) = 4 from x = 1 (closed circle) till x = 3

So, when x = -1, it is lie at the first interval

so, f(-1) = 2

the answer is option b. 2

3. For the same function, what is f(1)?

when x = 1, it lie at the second interval

F(x) = 4 from x = 1 (closed circle) till x = 3

so, f(1) = 4

The answer is option a. 4

4. For the same function, what is f(3.5)?

when x = 3.5 it out of the domain of the function because the end of the function at x = 3

so, there is no function at this point

so, it is undefined

The answer is option a. undefined
