Since the triangles are similar this means that the ratios between similar sides have to be equal; this means that:


\begin{gathered} (6.5)/(3.6)=(5.2)/(y) \\ (6.5)/(3.6)=(a)/(4.5) \end{gathered}

Solving the first equation we have:


\begin{gathered} (6.5)/(3.6)=(5.2)/(y) \\ y=(5.2)/((6.5)/(3.6)) \\ y=2.88 \end{gathered}

Solving the second equation:


\begin{gathered} (a)/(4.5)=(6.5)/(3.6) \\ a=4.5((6.5)/(3.6)) \\ a=8.125 \end{gathered}

Therefore, a=8.125 and y=2.88
