Distance is defined as the actual path traveled by an object from its initial path to the final position. Displacement is the change in the position of an object.

The difference between distance and displacement is the type of quantity they both are. Distance is a scalar quantity that implies that the direction with which the object is moving is independent. while displacement is a vector quantity and the direction with which the object moves is taken into account.
