the scale is 1cm:0.25km, this means that, the following ratio


(0.25)/(1)

must be preserved. Now, swe must convert 14.3 cm in the map to kilometers in the ground.

Since the above ratio must be preserved, we have that


(0.25)/(1)=(x)/(14.3)

where x is the unknow. hence, we have that


\begin{gathered} x=(14.3)(0.25)\text{ km} \\ or\text{ } \\ x=3.575\text{ km} \end{gathered}

Hence, 4.3 centimeters equals 3.575 km in real life.
