STEP 1

Write out the formula needed

\begin{gathered} m=(y_2-y_1)/(x_2-x_1) \\ \text{Also, m=}\frac{y_{}-y_1}{x_{}-x_1} \end{gathered}

STEP 2

Equate both equations together then substitute the values of the points into the equation.

\begin{gathered} (y_2-y_1)/(x_2-x_1)=\frac{y_{}-y_1}{x_{}-x_1} \\ (-14-(-2))/(3-(-5))=(y-(-2))/(x-(-5)) \\ (-14+2)/(3+5)=(y+2)/(x+5) \\ -(12)/(8)=(y+2)/(x+5) \\ -(3)/(2)=(y+2)/(x+5) \\ \text{Cross multiply} \\ -3(x+5)=2(y+2) \\ -3x-15=2y+4 \\ 2y=-3x-15-4 \\ 2y=-3x-19 \\ \text{Divide both sides by 2} \\ y=-(3x)/(2)-(19)/(2) \end{gathered}
