We have to find x.

As we have a right triangle we can apply trigonometric ratios.

In this case, we can relate the information we have as:

\begin{gathered} \cos48\degree=(Adjacent)/(Hypotenuse)=(17)/(x) \\ x=(17)/(\cos48\degree) \\ x\approx(17)/(0.669) \\ x\approx25.4 \end{gathered}

Answer: x = 25.4
