ANSWER and EXPLANATION

To find the surface area of a rectangular prism, we find the area of the top, front and left sides of the prism and add them by using the formula:

SA = 2{(l * h) + (l * w) + {w * h)}

where l = length

w = width

h = height

From the figure:

l = 5 in

w = 4 in

h = 3 in

Therefore, the surface area:

SA = 2{(5 * 3) + (5 * 4) + (4 * 3)}

SA = 2{15 + 20 + 12}

SA = 2(47)

SA = 94 square inches

Therefore:

Neither of them is correct. The surface area is twice the sum of the areas of the top, front and left side of the of the prism or 2(5 * 3 + 5 * 4 + 3 * 4) which is 94 square inches.
