Word Problem 1.42 Ms. Tui is having new floors installed in her house. Floor Company A charges $90 for installation and $9 per square yard of flooring. Floor Company B charges $50 for installation and $13 for each square yard.When will both companies have the same cost for installing a new floor?

1) Gathering the data

Comp. A = $ 90 + 9x

B = $50 +13x

2) To find out which amount makes both companies even the price.

Let's find x

$ 90 + 9x=$50 +13x

90-50=13x-9x

40=4x

x=10

If the order is 10 yd² company A or B have the same price.

3) Since Ms. Tui needs 35 yd²

Company A )90+ 9(35) =90+315 =$405

Company B) 50 +13(35) =50+455=$505

Since Company A equation has the lowest coefficient of x then it'll be cheaper.
