"A student claims that when you double the radius of a sector while keeping the measure of the central angle constant, then you double the area of the sector. Do you agree or disagree? Be sure to show and explain your answer using mathematical language."

Explanation:

Area of the sector is proportional to the square of the radius:

  • A = kr², where k is the constant

If you double the radius, the the area of sector is 2² = 4 times greater:

  • A = k(2r)² = 4kr²

So the student is wrong.
