1. Pick some known objects measures, they will be our benchmarks.

2. Compare what we need to measure to one of those benchmarks

3. Estimate the approximate size of the object.

1) When we need to estimate a measurement we'll have to guess the measurement of something based on some benchmarks like objects we already know the measurement.

2) We can take for instance a brand new pencil whose length is 7" 1/2 and estimate how large is a desk, based on the known size of a desk:

So, considering that a pencil (to the left) is approximately 7 1/2 inches w can estimate the width of that table by visual inspection.

In this example, given that each pencil is 7 1/2 " then the width of a table is approximately 37 1/2" (5 x 7 1/2 = 37 1/2).

3) Thus, the answer is:
