The function y = 3.5x + 2.8 represents the cost y (in dollars) of a taxi ride of x miles.

1)

we have $75 and we need to determine the total distance travel by taxi with$75

Since, Amount is represnt by y

So, y =75 to find the disatnce, x

Susbstitute y = 75 in the equation and simplify

\begin{gathered} y=3.5x+2.8 \\ 75=3.5x+2.8 \\ 72.2=3.5x \\ x=(72.2)/(3.5) \\ x=20.62 \end{gathered}

Thus total distance travelled 20.62 miles

2)

From school to your job is about 5.5 miles, Distance x =5.5

we need to find the value of amount i.e the value of y at x=5.5

\begin{gathered} y=3.5x+2.8 \\ y=3.5(5.5)+2.8 \\ y=22.05 \end{gathered}

It cots $22.05 to take a taxi From school to your job
