Bpetro, this is the solution:

Let's recall that the general form of the line equation is:

y = mx + b

Let's find b, this way:

3 = 1/4 * 5 + b

3 = 5/4 + b

b = 3 - 5/4

b = 12/4 - 5/4

b = 7/4

In consequence, the equation of the line that passes through the point (5,3) with a slope of 1/4 is:

y = 1/4x + 7/4
