Given the expression;


12x-18y+24

We shall take the common factors as shown below;


\begin{gathered} 12x=2*2*3* x \\ 18y=2*3*3* y \\ 24=2*2*2*3 \end{gathered}

We can now take all the common factors as follows;


2,3

Note that other values are not common to all three numbers. Hence what we have as the greatest common factor is the product of 2 and 3.

The greatest common factor therefore is 6.
