The area of the moulding is;

18(11)/(40)in^2

Here, we want to get the area of the moulding

From the question, we are told that the 80% of the frame is a glass photo

What this mean is that 20% of the picture frame will be that of the moulding

Mathematically, by calculating 20% of the area of the frame, we get the area of the moulding

As we can see that the frame is a rectangular shape, the area is the product of its length and its width

We have this as;

\begin{gathered} 10(3)/(4)*8(1)/(2) \\ =\text{ }(43)/(4)*(17)/(2)\text{ = }\frac{731}{8\text{ }}in^2 \end{gathered}

The area of the moulding is 20% of this which is the same as one-fifth or 1/5

we have this as;

\begin{gathered} (731)/(8)\text{ divided by 5} \\ \\ =\text{ }(731)/(8)\text{ }*\text{ }(1)/(5)\text{ = }(731)/(40)\text{ = 18}\frac{11}{40\text{ }}\text{ square inches} \end{gathered}
