We need to find the slope

\text{slope (m)=}(y_2-y_1)/(x_2-x_1)

x_1=1_{}_{}
y_(1=)1_{}
x_2=7
y_2=-5

substitute the values in the formula given above

\text{slope (m) =}(-5-1)/(7-1)
=(-6)/(6)=-1

Find the intercept using y = mx + b

where b is the intercept

x = 1 y= 1 and m = -1

Now solve for b

1 = 1(-1) + b

1 = -1 + b

1 + 1 = b

2 = b

Form the equation by substituting the value of m and b in y = mx + b

That is;

y = - x + 2
