A bag is filled with green and blue marbles. There are 55 marbles in the bag. If there are 15 more green marbles than blue marbles, find the number of green marbles and the number of blue marbles in the bag.

20 blue marbles

35 green marbles

Explanation:

Let b = number of blue marbles.

"there are 15 more green marbles than blue marble"

The number of green marbles is b + 15.

The total number of marbles is

b + b + 15

The total number of marbles is 55.

b + b + 15 = 55

2b = 40

b = 20

Blue marbles: 20

Green marbles:

b + 15 = 20 + 15 = 35

Green marbles: 35
