Meiosis is the process by which a diploid cell divides into four haploid cells. These cells have half of the genetic material and have gone through a process called crossing over.

Crossing over is one of the main phenomena that promote genetic diversity, in which the chromatids of homologous chromosomes exchange segments and therefore, the gametes obtained are different, ensuring variability.
