1)

Using the quadratic formula;

x\text{ =}\frac{-b\pm\sqrt[]{b^2-4ac}}{2a}

2x²+7x+3=0

comparing the above with

ax² + bx + c =0

a=2 b=7 c=3

substitute the values into the formula

x=\frac{-7\pm\sqrt[]{7^2-4(2)(3)}}{2(2)}
x=\frac{-7\pm\sqrt[]{49-24}}{4}
x=\frac{-7\pm\sqrt[]{25}}{4}
x=(-7\pm5)/(4)
\text{either x= }(-7-5)/(2)\text{ or x=}(-7+5)/(2)
x=(-12)/(2)\text{ or x=}(-2)/(2)
x=-6\text{ or x=-1}

x=-6\text{ or -1}
