step 1

Find out the area of the exercise room

The area is the same that the area of two rectangles

A=(13)(16-8)+(8)(13-6)

A=(13)(8)+(8)(7)

A=104+56

A=160 ft2

The area is 160 square feet

Remember that

1 yd=3 ft

1 yd2=9 ft2

therefore

160 ft2=160/9=17.78 yd2

The number of square yards equivalent is 17.8 yd2

Juan should buy 18 yd2
