Step-by-step explanation:

Thermal energy is the measure of the toatal energy of individual molecules and particles whereas intermolecular forces is the force of attraction between molecules.

If a molecule is in its gaseous phase, it can be converted to a liquid or solid state by reducing its temperature (heat) thereby reducing the individual particles kinetic nergy. This in turn increases the strength of intermolecular forces.

Also, if a molecule is in its liquid or solid phase, it can be converted to a gaseous or liquid phase by increasing its temperature thereby enabling particles to gain kinetic energy. This in turn weakens the intermolecular forces.
