In a certain country, customers are charged a flat fee of $55.50 for up to 50 local calls. customers pay $0.35 per call for each call above this limit. And a customer used $87.00 of local calls what is the number of local calls made?

we have that

the equation that represents this situation is

87.00=55.50+0.35x

where

x is the number of local calls made above 50

solve for x

0.35x=87-55.50

0.35x=31.50

x=90

therefore

the total of local calls is equal to

90+50=140

the answer is 140 calls
