The objective of this laboratory practice is to be able to identify substances according to their pH. They will be classified with bases or acids and if these are strong or weak.
The procedure to follow should be as follows:
1. A sample of the substance to be identified will be taken, previously labeled, with the proper safety protocols: Use of gloves, laboratory glasses, lab coat and in the appropriate place for handling acidic or basic substances.
2. The conductivity of the sample will be measured with the instrument provided by the laboratory and the value of this conductivity will be recorded for each substance.
3. The pH of the solution will be measured and recorded for each substance.
4. When all the conductivity and pH values of each of the samples are obtained, they will be identified as strong acids, weak acids, strong bases or weak bases according to the following table:
5. At the end of the practice, the entire space and instruments are cleaned and the substances are stored appropriately.
