As seen from the Norh Pole, the Moon moves in the counterclockwise direction.

As seen from the Earth on the given diagram, most of the surface of the Moon is obscured. Since it is moving in the counterclockwise direction, picture that in a couple of days it will reach the Full Moon position.

Since it is on the crescent phase and most of the surface as seen from Earth is obscured, then the corresponding lunar phase is waxing crescent.
