Given the information below, what was the Caroline's total monthly water and sewer bill? Zodiac Water & Wastewater Company has the following bi-mortily (every two months) rates for water and sewer usage: Water: Water Base Fee: $37.95 Water Usage (at or below 30 HCF): $3.46 per HCF Water Usage (above 30HCF): $4.79 per HCF Sewer: Sewer Base Fee: $35.55 Sewer Usage Fee: $3.92 per HCF of water use Storm Drain Fee: $8.95

Water base fee: $37.95

Water usage (≤ 30HCF):$3.46/HCF

Water usage (>30HCF):$4.79/HCF

Sewe base fee: $35.55

Sewe usage fee: $3.92/HCF

Storm Drain fee: $8.95

She had the following uses:

Water usage: 44 HCF → since the value is above 30HCF, the price per HCF you have to use is $4.79. The total cost of the water usage is the amount used multiplied by the unit price

u_w44\cdot4.79=210.76

To determine the total cost of the water usage (W) you have to add the base fee (b_w) and the cost of the water she used(u_w):

\begin{gathered} W=b_w+u_w \\ W=37.95+(44\cdot4.79) \\ W=37.95+210.76 \\ W=248.71 \end{gathered}

Sewer usage: 33HCF → the price per HCF of sewer usage is $3.92

To determine the cost of the sewer usage, you have to multiply the amount used by the unit price:

u_s33\cdot3.92=129.36

The total cost of the Sewer usage (S) is equal to the sum of the base fee (b_s) and the usage (u_s)

\begin{gathered} S=b_s+u_s \\ S=35.55+129.36 \\ S=164.91 \end{gathered}

Finally, add the water and sewer fees to determine the total cost of the bill:

\begin{gathered} C=W+S \\ C=248.71+164.91 \\ C=413.62 \end{gathered}

The total cost of the bill will be $413.62
