a digital video disc (DVD) stores data on a circular surface. The standard size for a DVD is a circle with a radius of 2.32 in. A circle of a radius 0.87 inches in the center of the disc does not contain data. If a standard DVD stores 31.97 Gbits of data and A blu-Ray stores 172.4 Gbits of data how much denser is the data storage of a Blu-Ray disc (in Gbits/cubic in)? run the nearest tenth

SOLUTION

\begin{gathered} S_(DVD)=\pi*2.32^2-\pi*0.87^2=14.53143 \\ S_(Blu-Ray)=\pi*2.24^2-\pi*0.79^2=13.80258 \end{gathered}

Therefore,

denser=(31.97)/(14.53143)+(172.4)/(13.80258)=14.69047\approx14.7

Hence, the answer is 14.7.
