If what is requested in the problem is to calculate the total number of hours worked, you need to proceed by subtracting the figures for time OUT from time IN on each row. For example, in the row for 9/13:

11:00 - 7:00 = 4 hours

then 4:45 - 11:30 = 16:45 - 11:30 = 5: 15

notice that in here, I converted the 4:45 into military time since that way it is better for the subtraction.

Therefore, for that day (9/13) the person has worked a total of: 4 + 5 hours, and 15 minutes, that is: 9 hours and 15 minutes.

Now we need to proceed with the second day (9/14), doing the same (make sure that minutes are subtracted from minutes, and hours from hours) Start always with theminutes, and if you see that you don't have enough minutes to subtract from, you convert one hour from the hour column into 60 minutes that you add to the minute column.

For 9/14:

11:35 - 8:10 = 3:25 (3 hours and 25 minutes)

4:35 - 12:30 = 16:35 - 12:30 = 4:05 (4 hours and 5 minutes)

So, total hours worked on (9/14) are: 7 hours and 30 minutes

As you continue with this analysis day by day, you end up with total number of hours and minutes worked per day, which you add at the end. Make sure then, that any excess of 59 minutes, you start converting into hours 60 minutes = 1 hour.

For 9/15:

12:00 - 8:10 so you need to borrow 60 minutes from the column of 12 hours to do the subtraction: 11:60 - 8:10 = 3:50 (3 hours and 50 minutes)

4:10 - 12:40 = 16:10 -12:40 (you need again to borrow 60 minutes from the hours): 15:70-12:40 = 3:30 (3 hours and 30 minutes)

Which for the day gives a total of: (3 + 3 hours = 6 h) and (50 + 30 minutes = 80 minutes = 1 h and 20 minutes) Totaling: 7 hours and 20 minutes

For 9/16:

11:50 - 8:20 = 3:30 (3 hours and 30 minutes)

4:50 -12:50 = 16:50 - 12:50 = 4 hours

So for (9/16) you have a totals of 7 hours and 30 minutes

For 9/17:

you complete the same type of calculation:

getting: 4:04 + 5:40 = 9 hours and 44 minutes

Now for the total number of hours and minutes work the five days:

Minutes:

15 + 30 + 20 + 30 + 44 = 139 = 2 hours and 19 minutes

Hours:

9 + 7 + 7 + 7 + 9 + (the 2 hours coming from the addition of minutes) = 41 hours

Total worked 41 hours and 19 minutes
