We want to determine which parking lot would be cheaper for a particular number of hours. Let x represent the number of hours for which the car would be parked in either parking lot.

One parking lot charges $5 to park and $2 per hour. This means that the cost of parking a car in this lot for x hours would be

2x + 5

Another lot charges $10 to park plus $1 per hour. This means that the cost of parking a car in this lot for x hours would be

x + 10

Assuming we want to park the car for 5 hours. We would substitute x = 5 into the equations. Thus, we have

For first parking lot,

2 * 5 + 10

= 10 + 20 = $20

For second parking lot,

5 + 10 = $15

Thus, the second parking lot is cheaper. You should park there
