length(l) = width(w) + 2


\text{Area}=24
l* w=24
(w+2)w=24
w^2+2w-24=0
(w+6)(w-4)=0
w=4\text{ or -6}

Negative not possible.


\text{width(w)}=4\text{ inches}
\text{length(l)}=w+2
\text{length of the rectangle=4+2}
\text{length of the rectangle=}6\operatorname{cm}
