By subtracting the x values, one from the other, the rate is consistent 5.
By subtracting the y values, one from the other, the rate is consistent -8

Slope is y/x so -8/5.

You can also chose two pairs of coordinates and find change in y over change in x.

1 - 9 over -2 - -7
