Subtract a from both sides:

8+a-a+6=4a-a+14-3a

8+6=3a+14-3a

Simplify:

14=3a-3a+14

14=14

It doesn't matter what a is, the answer is still the same. Try it with 5, -5, 0, 327, you will get the same thing each time.
