Statement:

R is the midpoint of QS.

To find out:

The measure of QS.

Solution:

  • QR + RS = QS
  • Since R is the midpoint of QS, then QR = RS.
  • QR = 2x + 16, RS = 5x - 17.
  • Therefore, 2x + 16 = 5x - 17
  • or, 2x - 5x = -17 - 16
  • or, -3x = -33
  • or, x = -33 ÷ -3
  • or, x = 11
  • Therefore, QR = 2(11) + 16
  • = 22 + 16 = 38
  • So, QS = 2QR
  • = 2 × 38
  • = 76

Answer:

QS is 76.

Hope you could understand.
