(x-9)/(2)=x+1
Multiply both sides by 2
x-9 = 2(x+1)
Distribute the 2
x-9=2x+2
Add 9 to both sides
x=2x+11
Subtract 2x from both sides
-x=11
Divide both sides by -1
x=-11

(-11 - 9)/2 = -10 = -11 + 1

It is correct when substituted back in.
