The height of a triangle is 3 inches greater than the base. The area of the triangle is 90 square inches. Find the length of the base and the height of the triangle.

So, here we have

90 = 1/2 * x * (x + 3)

x(x + 3) = 180

(x - 12)(x + 15) = 0

x = 12, -15 (we ignore the negative)

So, the base = 12 ins and height = 12 + 3 = 15 ins .
