by elimination method

+5y in equation 1 cancel -5y in equation 2

2x - 8x = -11 - 1

-6x = -12

divide both sides by - 6

- 6x/ -6 = -12/-6

x = 2

substitute x = 2 into equation ii

- 8 (2) - 5y = - 1

- 16 - 5y = - 1

collect like terms

- 5y = -1 + 16

- 5y = 15

divide both sides by -5y

-5y/-5y = 15/-5y

y = - 3
