Explanation:

Let's say that there was a square with all the side lengths being 2.

If we scale it by a half we get 2 x 1/2 which is 1

The smaller scale factor made the side smaller

Now if we scale it by 2 we get 2 x 2 which is 4

The bigger scale factor made the side bigger
