Sparta was a militaristic society that believed in strength over comfort. Their military training began at birth, as newborns were inspected for problems or birth defects. Sparta was ruled by two kings and a council of elders. It emphasized maintaining a strong military. At the top of Spartan society was the Spartan citizen. There was barely any relatively Spartan citizens.
