Antibiotics can kill bacteria by:

1. Preventing the production of peptidoglycan that forms the cell wall. The cell will continue to grow without developing new cell wall, this causes the already existing cell wall to get weaker which will eventually cause the cell to rupture.

2. Stopping the production of proteins (protein synthesis) which prevents the production of new DNA

There are two main ways in which antibiotics target bacteria. They either prevent the reproduction of bacteria, or they kill the bacteria, for example by stopping the mechanism responsible for building their cell walls.
