For example, if you are testing a plant; you might change the grow light bulb you are using as your independent variable (or variable that changes). Your constant's would be; the same amount of fertilizer, same amount of water, etc. The dependent variable would be the outcome of what grow light bulb causes the plant to grow more in a span of a few weeks.
