Answer: In many of these cases IV antibiotic treatment can take 4 to 6 weeks, sometimes followed by long-term oral antibiotic treatment, especially since osteomyelitis can be a lifelong disease (I do see the "acute" in the question, just calling it out).

Best advice thought for the nurse would be to "ask the doctor :)"
