You add 17

You times both sides by 5

-10=k

Multiply both sides of the equation by 5.

-95 = -85 + k

Swap the sides so that all the terms of the variables are on the left side.

-85 + k = -95

Add 85 to both sides.

k = -95 + 85

Add −95 and 85 to get −10.

k = -10
