Tegan wants a new bag. its normal price is $36. it has now been discounted by 20%. Tegan also has a card that gives her a further 5% discount. what did she pay for the bag ?
( answer to the nearest 5 cents)

*** this is a little confusing, as i need to workout the 20% discount, and then workout a 5% discount on the problem after you done the 20 % ***

Explanation:

sum of discounts=25%+5%

now apply the discount 25%=2.5

36$*2.5=9$ is the total discount

so,

amount paid = 36$-9$

Answer:

$27.

Explanation:

Sum up both of the discounts:

20% + 5%= 25%

Now apply the discount:

25%= 0.25

$36 * 0.25= $9

9 is the total amount of the discount. Therefore, the amount payed for the item should be:

$36 - $9= $27.

A shorter way of solving this would be the following:

$36 * (1-0.25)= $27.
