Two buses leave a station at the same time and travel in opposite directions. One bus travels 18 miles per hour faster than the other. If the two buses are 744 miles apart after 6 hours, what is the rate of each bus?

Answer:

53 mph and 71 mph

Explanation:

bus 1 rate = x

bus 2 rate = x + 18

rate times time = distance

( x + x+18) * 6 = 744

(2x+18) * 6 = 744

2x + 18 = 124

2x = 106

x = 53 the other bus is 53 + 18 = 71 mph
