How do you think future generations will remember the Cold War? What lessons should students today take away from the Cold War?

that it stayed a cold war

didn't turn into a world war

diplomacy worked

like the Cuban missile crisis

over spending on the military collapsed the soviet economy

cold war not leading to a hot war led to positive advances in other things it became a matter of COMPETITION

like the space race (NASA)

inventions like the internet

chess matches (example bobby fischer)

showed capitalism & democracy are better than communism because of

freedom

political, economic and cultural freedom

political : democracy

economic : captialism : to be able to do business without governmental interference

culture: freedom of speech, assembly, religion (where all religions are accepted rather than none under communism)
