The graph of y=√x is reflected in the x-axis and then translated

down 3 units. What is an equation that produces this transformation?
A. -√x-3
B. y= -3-(√x)
C. y= 3- (√x)
D. y= -(√x-3)

Answer: B. y = - 3 - (√x)

This is the same as y = - (√x) - 3
- 3 means the function is translated 3 units down since it is negative.

In order for the function to be reflected over the x-axis, the function (√x) has to be negative.

Note it cannot be D. because the function is being translated 3 units to the right, not down.
