AB = 4.5 units

Explanation:

Let the length of AB be x.

GIVEN :-

  • BC = 3 units
  • CD = 4 units
  • ED = 6 units
  • BD || AE

TO FIND :-

  • The length of AB.

FACTS TO KNOW BEFORE SOLVING :-

Basic Proportionality Theorem :-

  • If a line is drawn parallel to one side of a triangle to intersect the other two sides in distinct points , the other two sides are divided in the same ratio.

PROCEDURE :-

According to Basic Proportionality Theorem ,


(CB)/(AB) = (CD)/(ED)


=> (3)/(x) = (4)/(6)


=> x = (3 * 6)/(4) = (18)/(4) = 4.5

∴ AB = 4.5 units
